Appendix II: The National Coalition for Japanese Canadian Redress—Who Stood with Us?

The National Coalition for Japanese Canadian Redress became a powerful unifying voice for Canadians from all backgrounds who supported the redress aims of the NAJC. Ethnic organizations, church and labour groups, civil rights leaders, and many prominent individuals signed the Coalition agreement, thereby endorsing the NAJC’s call for a negotiated settlement which would include a figure for individual compensation. Crombie’s inflexibility on the issue of individual rights provided the ideal rallying point for the NAJC’s campaign. It was the first time that widespread support for the NAJC’s position on individual rights was publicly affirmed by such a large representative group. Members of the Coalition came from all parts of Canada and a wide variety of occupations. The following list was compiled from information supplied on the membership forms.
