Suzanne Elki Yoko Hartmann
LinkedInSuzanne Elki Yoko Hartmann is a biracial yonsei with German ancestry. She joined the Toronto NAJC board in 2022, and is also on the board of the Toronto Japanese Garden Club. Suzanne’s involvement with the Japanese Canadian community includes acting as newsletter editor at the Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre, managing editor of Nikkei Voice and administrator at Japanese Social Services where she established the ongoing annual Holiday Drive program.
The editor, writer and children’s book author has worked in media for the last 30 years. The first decade began in television at Citytv and then CBC before journeying to print, web and digital. Her company, Old Sage Hands, provides editing, consulting and creative services. She currently works part time in the copy editing centre at Metroland Media.
Suzanne holds a master of fine arts from the University of King’s College, a certificate in magazine publishing and a bachelor’s degree in Radio & Television Arts from Ryerson (Toronto Metropolitan University). She was thrilled to receive the NAJC Endowment Fund’s 2020 SEAD grant for her MFA thesis project and hopes to share the work with the community soon. She and her husband, Gaëtan Belair, have one adult child.
