Michelle Walters
Michelle Walters is a mixed-race Japanese American, born in Virginia, raised in New Jersey, and transplanted to Toronto in 2008. Her heritage is a mixture of deep southern roots originating in Tennessee and Alabama, and Japanese heritage from Yamagata prefecture. She earned her bachelor’s degree of science in civil engineering at Rutgers University, and currently works at Hatch, a consulting engineering firm, as the engineering management lead of the water group within Hatch’s infrastructure team.
In her spare time, Michelle has been engaged in several volunteer efforts including sponsorship for a Syrian family and a young Syrian single man. She has participated in fundraising and community outreach programs for Engineers Without Borders to educate youth on the importance of clean water, it’s role in daily life and its impact on world communities. Michelle has also volunteered with Habitat for Humanity Global Village, working on a home build in Costa Rica. Michelle is passionate about social equality, diversity, water and sustainability.
