The National Association of Japanese Canadians call upon Prime Minster Harper and Governor General Johnston to meet with National Chief Shawn A-in-chut Atleo, Aboriginal leaders and Attawapiskat Nation Chief Theresa Spence to discuss concrete commitments, preservation and fulfillment of treaty rights.
Bill C-45 directly alters the Indian Act and therefore requires further open discussions with the First Nations people on its ramifications.
President Ken Noma stated, “the NAJC stands in solidarity with the Assembly of First Nations and its leadership. It is time for the government of Canada to show enlightened leadership as it did on September 22, 1988 when it signed the Redress Settlement with Japanese Canadians.”
We ask all Canadians to contact the office of the Prime Minister and your local MP and express your support of Attawapiskat Chief Spence and the Assembly of First Nations.
