Roy Miyashita Concert at Castleview Wychwood Towers
Auditorium
December 21, 2014, 2 to 4 pm
Admission by Donation
Pianist Roy Miyashita and his three musical friends — Bruce Tatemichi on tenor saxophone, David Bell on acoustic bass, and Cam Jobson on drums — transmitted nothing but pleasure to the 100-or-so audience seated this Sunday afternoon to hear an hour-long set of tunes that included evergreen standards like “Tenderly” and “Stella By Starlight”, and concluded with two of Roy’s own tunes, the angular “Thadeus”, and the busy “Highway 401”. While the majority of the appreciative audience was JC, and some took care of their beloved wheel-chair bound parents, there were younger adults, too, who ably assisted by taking in admission monies, grabbing snap shots of the musicians (thank you) and greeting the incoming audience. Afterwards, people said things like, “He’s really good.” Or — “That was just wonderful. Roy’s so creative.” I think Mr. Miyashita had a good day. And the Toronto Chapter — the proud co-sponsor of this Sunday concert, along with Castleview Wychwood Towers — can now ease themselves into the Christmas season. Season’s Best and Happy New Year! from the Toronto Chapter of the NAJC.
