DLINE TO APPLY IS SUNDAY, OCTOBER 31ST

Greetings! On this Thanksgiving weekend, we hope that you are able to safely spend time with loved ones. You may have heard that the Province of BC has provided a $2 million Japanese Canadian Survivors Health & Wellness Fund to Nikkei Seniors Health Care and Housing Society. Click her for full details.

Its purpose is to show a commitment to honour those who lived through the traumatic uprooting and displacement of almost 22,000 Japanese Canadians from 1942 to April 1, 1949. It is a first step by the province in acknowledging their role in these historic wrongs.

The monies are meant to enhance programs, activities, and services that directly benefit the health and wellness of living survivors. The Grant is an outcome of the National Association of Japanese Canadians’ (NAJC) BC Redress initiative. Read more about JC Wellness and BC Redress

The NAJC is currently in talks with the BC Provincial Government to determine additional initiatives. We encourage you to discuss the application process with family or friends who may be able to assist you with submitting an application.  Or, if you know someone who should be made aware of the fund, please pass along this information to them.

All information is confidential. It is important for the community as a whole and for current BC Redress talks that the number of applications reflect the estimated number of survivors. If you were affected by the actions of the BC Government between 1942 and April 1, 1949, please do not hesitate to submit a request.
