
Andrea Mariko Grant
Andrea Mariko Grant is a biracial sansei Japanese Canadian who grew up in Scarborough. A social anthropologist by training, her current research focuses on Japanese Canadian art, including the tanka poetry of her Issei grandmother. She also directs a research project on Nikkei art more widely, working with Nikkei researchers from Brazil, Australia, and the US. She holds a PhD in social anthropology from the University of Oxford and was a research fellow and lecturer in social anthropology at the University of Cambridge. Since returning to Canada in 2022, she has been involved in curatorial and public history projects around Japanese Canadian history and identity in BC.
